Quote of the week as seen on Talking Points Memo.

As much as I would like to take credit for this post, I can not. The credit belongs to a individual that goes by the handle bluestatedon who was responding to a story about Ann Coulter's latest outrage.

"The sheer depths of the bitter, nihilistic ignorance, racism and bigotry in the Republican mind is really quite amazing. It was obviously bubbling and boiling just below the surface all along, and Obama's election seems to have dissolved the wafer-thin seal of marginal civility that was keeping it bottled up. Granted, the Clinton years gave us an early picture of what was really lurking in the conservative Republican mind, but that was just a warm-up for the main act we see now. What's happened to the Republican Party is the confluence of four destructive developments: 1) The wholesale flight to the GOP by white racists in the south who formerly voted solidly Democratic ; 2) The enthusiastic political embrace of Evangelical Christianism by the GOP, which meant it was tying its fortunes to people whose worldview is based on the premise of Biblical inerrancy; 3) the ascendancy of Tea Party extremism, which is the freakish love child coming out of the unholy, perverted union of John Birch Society lunacy and Ayn Randian selfishness; and 4) the creation of a lavishly-funded media propaganda network, most notably in the form of FoxNews, that serves to castigate, muzzle, and sometimes drive out moderate, sane voices from the GOP and conservative movement. When a political party is dominated by people from 1), 2), and 3) whose only source of "information" is from 4), the inevitable result is the gleeful, unapologetic sociopathy that characterizes today's Republican Party."
