Quote of the week as seen on Talking Points Memo.
<p>
<p>
As much as I would like to take credit for this post, I can not. The credit belongs to a individual that goes by the handle bluestatedon who was responding to a story about Ann Coulter's latest outrage.
<p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2VP5HURvMYo/U3JeH10uG0I/AAAAAAAAARU/LyO4tiNk7xo/s1600/ann+coulter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2VP5HURvMYo/U3JeH10uG0I/AAAAAAAAARU/LyO4tiNk7xo/s320/ann+coulter.jpg" /></a></div>
<p>
"The sheer depths of the bitter, nihilistic ignorance, racism and bigotry in the Republican mind is really quite amazing. It was obviously bubbling and boiling just below the surface all along, and Obama's election seems to have dissolved the wafer-thin seal of marginal civility that was keeping it bottled up.
Granted, the Clinton years gave us an early picture of what was really lurking in the conservative Republican mind, but that was just a warm-up for the main act we see now.
What's happened to the Republican Party is the confluence of four destructive developments: 1) The wholesale flight to the GOP by white racists in the south who formerly voted solidly Democratic ; 2) The enthusiastic political embrace of Evangelical Christianism by the GOP, which meant it was tying its fortunes to people whose worldview is based on the premise of Biblical inerrancy; 3) the ascendancy of Tea Party extremism, which is the freakish love child coming out of the unholy, perverted union of John Birch Society lunacy and Ayn Randian selfishness; and 4) the creation of a lavishly-funded media propaganda network, most notably in the form of FoxNews, that serves to castigate, muzzle, and sometimes drive out moderate, sane voices from the GOP and conservative movement.
When a political party is dominated by people from 1), 2), and 3) whose only source of "information" is from 4), the inevitable result is the gleeful, unapologetic sociopathy that characterizes today's Republican Party."

It never ceases to amaze me how many conservatives I encounter online that throw around labels like "Socialist" or "Communist" but don't actually know what one
is. Most of these boobs wouldn't know a real Socialist or Communist if one slapped them upside their empty heads. I've come to the conclusion that they just automatically apply these labels to anything or anybody they don't agree with. Other than that they really don't give it much thought.

The words of Lee Atwater<br />
<br />
"You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger” — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now [that] you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I’m not saying that. But I’m saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.” - Lee Atwater</div>

AUGUST 30, 2011 7:40 PM ET<br />
<br />
An excellent article from the Rolling Stone Magazine on GOP efforts across the nation to suppress voting or at best make it extremely difficult for certain segments of our population to vote in the 2012 election.<br />
<br />
Below is an excerpt from the article. You can read the full article by clicking on the link below.<br />
<br />
"Republicans have long tried to drive Democratic voters away from the polls. "I don't want everybody to vote," the influential conservative activist Paul Weyrich told a gathering of evangelical leaders in 1980. "As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down." But since the 2010 election, thanks to a conservative advocacy group founded by Weyrich, the GOP's effort to disrupt voting rights has been more widespread and effective than ever. In a systematic campaign orchestrated by the American Legislative Exchange Council – and funded in part by David and Charles Koch, the billionaire brothers who bankrolled the Tea Party – 38 states introduced legislation this year designed to impede voters at every step of the electoral process."<br />

I've never been a huge fan of Chris Matthews combative style, but there are times when that's exactly what is needed, and this was one of those times. The GOP needs to be called out and loudly! It's actually good to see these guys get a taste of their own medicine. Allen West take notes!<br />

<br />
I'm embarrassed for her because she's probably too stupid to be embarrassed for herself.<br />
At first I thought it was a spoof, then I realized this chick is serious.<br />
At one point in the video I almost feel sorry for her....almost.<br />
<br />
It's amazing what crazy stuff people will allow themselves to believe about Obama. I don't think<br />
the wing nuts on left during the Bush years can beat some of the craziness that's out there on the fringe right. And yes there was some crazy stuff coming from the fringe left during the Bush years. But I think the right has them beat. People like Victoria Jackson are what you get when you have the likes Glen Beck playing to a gullible audience and fanning the flames of racial fear and resentment on a daily basis. <br />
